Jeffrey J. Cox
ABOUT
Jeff Cox is a partner in the Dallas office of Hartline,
Dacus, Barger, Dreyer & Kern, L.L.P. He began his legal career as an
associate in the Dallas office of Baker Botts,
L.L.P. During his tenure at Baker Botts, he handled a variety of litigation
matters, including class actions, patent and trademark litigation, pharmaceutical
litigation, business torts and toxic torts.
Since joining Hartline Dacus in 1999, Mr. Cox has expanded his practice.
He now serves as trial counsel for many international manufacturers in
products liability matters and has successfully handled cases from Montana
to Florida. He also continues to handle patent infringement matters and complex
consumer class actions. Mr. Cox has argued multiple Markman hearings and served as lead counsel in class certification hearings. As a result of his work in the class action arena,
he was named one of America’s Best Lawyers by the Forbes Radio Network
and his interview was broadcast to a worldwide audience. Most recently
he was named a Rising Star in the 2006 and 2007 Texas Super Lawyers – Rising
Star Edition, a recognition denoting the top 2.5 percent of all lawyers
in the State of Texas under the age of forty or in practice for ten years
or less.
CASE EXPERIENCE
- Currently defense counsel
for a foreign automaker in a patent infringement suit in the Eastern
District of Texas involving microprocessor technology.
- Currently defense
counsel in several patent infringement suits in the Eastern District of
Texas relating to technology used in the telecommunications industry.
- Plaintiff’s counsel
in a patent infringement suit in the Eastern District of Texas involving
automotive air conditioning systems.
- Counsel for an Ohio company
presently involved in a patent infringement suit in the Eastern District
of Texas relating to business methods for internet gaming.
- Recently took over a three
year old wrongful death case for a major international retailer and, after
discovering and proving that the plaintiff’s evidence had been fabricated,
obtained a surprise dismissal.
- Successfully obtained the
dismissal of a statewide antitrust class action in the Eastern District
of Texas on behalf of an international tire manufacturer and once again
obtained a dismissal at the class certification stage when the same case
was re-filed in Texas State Court.
- Recently obtained the dismissal
of a statewide class action involving Lanham Act and fraud claims in
the Eastern District of Texas.
- First attorney in the
nation to convince a court to dismiss one of a series of class actions
filed throughout the United States against several automakers and seatbelt
manufacturers resulting in new law at the appellate level regarding “no
injury” class actions. See Everett v TK-Taito, 178 S.W. 3d 844
(Tex. App. – Fort Worth 2005, no pet.).
- Part of a team of HDBDK attorneys
who successfully obtained a reversal of a $10 million verdict for a
major automotive client. See General Motors v. Iracheta, 161 S.W. 3d 462
(Tex.
2005).
